200 years and we’ve come to this?

It’s Darwin Day, and time to celebrate science and the beauty of observable, provable reality. But, yet, old myths, and bad policy on based on them,  seem as strong as ever — at least in my neck of the woods.
Though I love science,  I’m tired and uninspired at the moment, so just some interesting notes and links.

Keith Olbermann: Bush’s 8 disasterous years in 8 minutes

Finally, it is about over. Just two days, and we can watch watch his chickenhawk ass get out of our White House and our Capital City. Bush and his accomplices will continue to try to whitewash his “legacy” but they will fail. The best George W. Bush can hope from history is eternal ignominy. With an iota of justice… Read the rest

The Real Rick Warren

Here’s a story that reveal the real person inside Obama’s new BFF, Rick Warren.
It’s gotta be more than donuts and a soul-less hug, Rick. Reach down and find that Christ-centeredness you claim to promote — if you’ve got it in you. A little humility wouldn’t hurt either.

Progressive groups and activists condemn inaugural role for Rick Warren

People for the American Way

… the sad truth is that this decision further elevates someone who has in recent weeks actively promoted legalized discrimination and denigrated the lives and relationships of millions of Americans.
Rick Warren gets plenty of attention through his books and media appearances. He doesn’t need or deserve this position of honor. There is no

Pets and people

I visited the Pets and People shelter in Yukon today. I’m thinking about getting a small dog or cat.
The people who work and volunteer at such places are made of some strong stuff, I’m telling you. After about five minutes there, I was a basket case. So many animals without homes is heartwrenching. There must have been at least… Read the rest

“How’s your longtime companion, Jill?”
“She’s my wife!”
“Yeah, well,

A personal view of marriage equality

Look, I’m not married. I’ve never been married. I never wanted to be married — okay, maybe when I was five I played house or something, but once I was out of early childhood, I always knew I would never get married.
No, my parents weren’t divorced, married for over 60 years.
In a way, I was a feminist before… Read the rest

Don’t spoil ‘Milk’ by seeing it at a Cinemark theater

In an earlier post about the Prop 8 backlash, I mentioned the fact that the CEO of Cinemark, which runs a chain of theaters, contributed thousands of dollars to the anti-gay Proposition 8 in California and a boycott was in order.
Is this kind of response over-reacting? Is it religious bigotry to fight back against those whose “faith”… Read the rest

Prop 8 produces new wave of queer activism

The backlash against the Proposition 8 campaign in California has only just begun. Americablog and Pam’s House Blend are two blogs that are keeping up with the fast moving story. Protests, petitions and boycotts are underway, including major organizing through Facebook and Twitter. This Saturday, cities across the country will have demostrations in solidarity. Andrew Sullivan called… Read the rest
