Number of Women in Oklahoma Legislature Drops

Well, this news sucks.

In 2008 Oklahoma ranked 49th in the nation in the number of women elected to the Legislature.

I think we have a good chance of ranking at the bottom in 2009.

Thanks to Jean Warner of Oklahoma Women’s Network Blog for tracking and sharing this stuff.

Let’s see, highest percentage votes for McCain/Palin, least women in legislature. Coincidence? I think not.

Sad. But then, in the world of Oklahoma politics, there aren’t a lot of bright spots.

That said, I’d be far happier if there was one less woman in the state legislature…Sally Kern.

  2. Jessika says:

I agree with Ian about Kern. Although I would *love* to see more women in politics, there’s no way I’d vote for one like Kern or Palin. They are not feminists, or even for basic things, like say equality.
